Norway - Oslo Bomb Blast

A bomb blast tore through central Oslo, shattering windows at the prime minister’s office and leaving at least seven people dead, shortly before a gunman killed at least nine others on an island near the Norwegian capital, police said.
Acting Police Chief Sveinung Sponheim said a 32-year-old Norwegian man was arrested on the island of Utoeya, about 40 kilometers (25 miles) from Oslo. Police think the same person may be behind the bombing and the shootings on the island, Sponheim said at a news conference in Oslo.
The Oslo blast was reported at 3:26 p.m. local time, police said. How long afterward the shooting began on Utoeya wasn’t immediately known.
Prime Minister and Labor Party leader Jens Stoltenberg wasn’t at his office today when the bomb went off. The attack was “cowardly,” he told reporters later, and said the government will function although buildings were heavily damaged.
Stoltenberg had been due to appear tomorrow at a Labor Party youth gathering on Utoeya, where about nine or 10 people were gunned down, Sponheim said. The death toll probably will rise, he said.
The suspected shooter, who wore a police uniform, wasn’t a police officer, he said.
The attacks are the deadliest in Europe since bomb blasts at Moscow’s Domodedovo Airport in January left at least 37 people dead.
Norway Targeted
Today’s bombing, for which there was no credible claim of responsibility, marks the first time Oslo has suffered such an attack. Three terrorist suspects with possible ties to al-Qaeda were arrested last year in Norway.
“There could be a lot of theories on who is behind this, but our first suspicions are directed towards al-Qaeda because leaders of the network have, on multiple occasions, put Norway on the list of targets,” Kristian Berg Harpviken, director of the Peace Research Institute in Oslo, said by phone. “Two factors that have contributed to this are Norway’s role in the war on terror and in Afghanistan in particular.”
U.S. intelligence agencies are checking whether al-Qaeda can be linked to the attacks, said a U.S. official who was not authorized to discuss it publicly. So far, no determination has been made whether al-Qaeda or any other known terrorist group was involved, the official said.
NATO Mission
Norway, a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, has about 500 troops in Afghanistan. NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said he condemns “in the strongest possible terms the heinous acts of violence in Norway.” They were “cruel and cowardly,” he said.
Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt said he contacted Stoltenberg to convey his condolences. “From a Swedish perspective, we’re following the ongoing development,” he said. “There is still a lot that is unclear about what has happened.”
Neighboring Sweden had a brush with what police treated as a possible terror attack in December, after a suicide bomber injured two people in central Stockholm.
Danish security police have been on heightened alert since 2006 after the country’s biggest newspaper, Jyllands-Posten, published caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad. Those images were reprinted in several Norwegian papers.
Obama Reacts
U.S. President Barack Obama, said “the entire international community has a stake in preventing this kind of terror” and must cooperate “on intelligence and in terms of preventing these kinds of horrible attacks.”
Obama, who spoke to reporters after a meeting with New Zealand Prime Minister John Key, was briefed by his national security adviser for homeland security, John Brennan, according to spokesman Tommy Vietor.
Danish Prime Minister Lars Loekke Rasmussen sent a statement conveying his “deepest sympathy and solidarity” with the Norwegian people. U.K. Foreign Secretary William Hague described the bombing in a press release as “horrific.”
Before the explosion, a car drove into the government quarter, the police said in a statement. No government ministers were hurt, Stoltenberg told broadcaster NRK.
Eirik Borg, a back office worker at stock brokerage Fearnley Fonds based near the scene, said he saw smoke billowing from the government quarter after hearing the blast.
“We felt the impact very hard throughout the building,” Borg said in a phone interview. “All the windows were breaking and we actually thought lightning hit our roof. From our terrace, we saw white smoke.”
Stocks, Currency Hit
The bombing initially sent Norway’s currency and stocks lower. The krone weakened as much as 1 percent against the dollar and was trading 0.4 percent lower at 8:30 p.m. local time. Against the euro, the krone was little changed at 7.7851 after losing as much as 0.4 percent. The benchmark OBX stock index fell as much as 0.4 percent before closing little changed.
“Large sections of the center of Oslo have been evacuated and the police are urging people to stay away from the center of the city and limit their use of mobile phones,” the police said in a statement. Sponheim said police don’t expect further blasts.
The country’s Ministry of Petroleum suffered “massive damage” as a consequence of the blast, spokesman Haakon Smith- Isaksen said by phone. Norway is the world’s seventh-largest oil exporter.
“There was a huge explosion, the windows just blew out,” Smith-Isaken said. “There is much debris, people are injured. It was like a grenade explosion.”
Norway’s government will hold an emergency meeting tonight to discuss how to handle the attacks, Stoltenberg told NRK.

The Summer Solstice

The summer solstice is the moment when the sun assumes its greatest declination , that is, when it is at its highest in the sky in the Northern Hemisphere , north of the Tropic of Cancer. The sun is then in the zenith over the Tropic of Cancer .During the summer solstice when the sun is as high in the sky in Gavle , Sweden (60th parallel) as it does during the winter solstice , for example, Cairo , Egypt (30th parallel) in northern Africa .
When the sun is at its highest over the northern Italy to reach the same height as when it is at its lowest over the equator , the sun is at its highest over the equator at thespring and autumn equinoxes , and the lowest when it is winter or summer solstice.
At summer solstice, Earth's axis is tilted north of the maximum of the sun, which means that the northern hemisphere, then gets its longest day and shortest night.North of the Arctic Circle, the sun is not even down.
Around the summer solstice, Earth is the farthest from the sun, at aphelion .
At the summer solstice occurs this year's longest day and shortest night, which falls around June 21 in the northern hemisphere. The exact date may vary slightly from year to year depending on the year's location in the four-year shoots year period and the local meridian .

Sachin speaks about marks and runs

India's batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar has revealed that during his teenage days he resisted the temptation to skip practice to eat "vada pavs" but his respect for his father always restrained him from doing so.
In an interview to a Marathi TV channel, Tendulkar said he never wanted to exploit the freedom given by his father, who wanted the legend to pursue sporting excellence.

As a kid I always felt like bunking the practice session and go out to eat 'vada pavs' like most children of my age did. "But I never wanted to exploit the freedom given by my father, who wanted me to pursue my interest in cricket and pressurized me to achieve academic success," said Tendulkar."When in school I found that scoring runs was easier for me than scoring marks. My father recognized my passion for cricket and fully supported me, insisting that whatever I do, I should not lose my focus," he said. The former India captain said it was his coach Ramakant Archrekar and brother Ajit, who kept him focussed. "The credit to keep me focused on the game, which is my passion, should go to my coach and my brother. They ensured that I never lost focus," said Tendulkar. The 38-year-old also advised budding cricketers to be self-disciplined. "As a professional sportsman it is necessary to imbibe a kind of self-discipline and you cannot eat and drink at will. Everybody wants to enjoy life, but one has to know one's limitations and ensure that it (lifestyle) does not affect your performance," he said.

NRG businessman buys flying car

In 2008, NRG businessman Subhash Shihora's wife and six-month-old son were not allowed to board a flight from Delhi to Ahmedabad despite having a valid ticket because of a technical glitch. Shihora, a major stake-holder in the Rs 2 lakh crore Urok consultancy firm in the UK, was so angry he sued the airline for Rs 21 crore. He also wanted to ensure that it never happened again. And he found a way out — Shihora has become the first Indian to buy the world's first commercial flying car called 'Transition' from a company in Massachusetts, US.

Shihora now wants the car to be parked at his farmhouse off SG Road in Ahmedabad. But he fears getting permission may not be easy. He will need clearances from not just aviation agencies, but security agencies as well and has already started talking to officials.

"I fly down to Ahmedabad at least six times a year and then fly to Mumbai and Rajkot. I had taken a test drive of the flying car. By pressing just one button, the car turns into an aircraft. I have started taking flying lessons to get the licence," says Shihora. He booked the car in 2009 and will get delivery in 2012. Shihora, who moved to UK in 1998, booked it for Rs 1 crore and will pay another Rs 1 crore by the time it is delivered. "With all taxes and duties paid, the car will cost me around Rs 6 crore in Ahmedabad."

The car, designed with foldable wings, successfully completed its first flight on March 5, 2009 and recently got clearance from the US Department of Transportation's Federal Aviation Administration. The two-seater vehicle falls in the light aircraft category and requires a private pilot licence to fly it. The vehicle, which is big enough to fit into a home garage and runs on unleaded petrol, can travel up to 450 miles and can fly at 115 mph.

Colonel VK Nagar, an aviation industry expert, says, "Directorate General of Civil Aviation and Airports Authority of India (AAI) may give permission under the micro light aircraft category. But a vehicle that can both be driven on roads and can be taken to the skies from anywhere may create issues with security agencies."

Ganguly wont play

Ganguly wont play the match against MI in IPL season 4. Yuvraj Singh who welcomed Ganguly's inclusion in the squad told the reports that he wont be playing the match against MI. He also added that Ganguly would definitely be an asset to the team. "He's experienced and I will get help in captaining the team," Yuvraj told reporters.

GANGULY IS BACK IN IPL

DADA is back

Ganguly, the former India captain, has been signed by Pune Warriors as a replacement for Ashish Nehra, who was ruled out for the remainder of the 2011 season with a finger injury. Ganguly's contract is for a period of one year and is an IPL lifeline to the batsman after he went unsold at the player auction in January, where his base price was $400,000.
Ganguly will be vice-captain to Yuvraj Singh and is likely to join the Pune squad ahead of their match against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on May 4.
"He is playing in IPL not for money but to prove a point. Our team think-tank felt that Sourav Ganguly is the best possible option available so we went for him. He has been a fighter and a master of comebacks. We are very much confident that he will prove his worth."
Ganguly played for Kolkata Knight Riders in the first three seasons of the IPL and led the team in two of them, while Brendon McCullum was captain for the other. Kolkata fared poorly in those years and are the only franchise not to make the semi-finals. Kolkata did not bid for Ganguly in January despite his name coming up for sale twice, as they revamped their squad entirely, and the batsman later refused a mentoring role with the franchise.
Pune Warriors are bottom of the ten-team league at present, having lost six consecutive matches after winning their first two. Ganguly has an average IPL record - 1031 runs at an average of 28 and strike-rate of 110 - and could strengthen an under-performing and short batting order.

iDay - International Day; is a celebration of culture in Linköping University. In 2005, the first International Day was organized by the Student Union at the Institute of Technology to gather the university's foreign students in a cross-cultural event. It turned out to be a great success and became an annual tradition. Every year, students from USA, Canada, Ghana, Bangladesh, Belgium, Cameroon, China, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Italy, Lithuania, Mexico, Pakistan, Poland, Taiwan, Turkey, Tajikistan, and Ukraine participate in the event and present their culture. Each nationality represents with a stand serving home cooking and cakes. The students distributes valuable information about their home country and culture. As in previous years, iDay was a meeting not only of cultures, but of generations. Many students brought their families and friends to join in the celebration. In iDay 2010, Bangladesh won the 1st place in representing their culture followed by India who bagged the 2nd place. The cultural event(dance) was a great success last year. Indian men secured the 1st place in the dance competition (thanks to the boys for the outstanding performance). iDay 2011 is going to be held at Valla campus on 12th and 13th of May 2011. Its once again a party time for the students of Linköping University. Cheers all!

Sathya Sai Baba

Sathya Sai Baba born as Sathyanarayana Raju (23 November 1926 – 24 April 2011) was a popular Indian guru, spiritual figure and educator. He is described by his devotees as an Avatar, godman, spiritual teacher and miracle worker. The apparent materializing of vibuthi (holy ash) and small objects such as rings, necklaces and watches by Sathya Sai Baba has been a source of both fame and controversy – skeptics consider these simple conjuring tricks, while devotees consider them evidence of divinity. Sathya Sai Baba has claimed to be the reincarnation of the great spiritual guru, Sai Baba of Shirdi, whose teachings were an eclectic blend of Hindu and Muslim beliefs.
Sathya Sai Baba and his organizations support a variety of free educational institutions, hospitals, and other charitable works in India and abroad. The number of active Sathya Sai Baba adherents was estimated in 1999 to be around 6 million, although followers' estimations are far higher. Since there are no formal ties of membership, the actual figure may never be knownThe Sathya Sai Organization reports that there are an estimated 1,200 Sathya Sai Baba Centers in 114 countries worldwide. In India itself, Sai Baba draws followers from predominantly upper-middle-class, urban sections of society who have the "most wealth, education and exposure to Western ideas."A cultural icon in his home country, Sai Baba has attracted presidents and prime ministers from India and beyond who have become his devotees; in 2002, he claimed to have followers in 178 countries.

Sourav Ganguly may move to Kochi IPL team or coach Bangladesh

Every cricketer is in news after the win in ICC World Cup 2011 and with the start of IPL4 cricket is the hot topic this season. Hot news coming from the cricket grounds is that Sourav Ganguly the former Indian skipper is in demand now-a-days. Sourav Ganguly is expected to be a top choice as a batting coach for Bangladesh cricket team as well as the former Indian skipper can replace Jayewardene captain of Kochi Tuskers Kerala in IPL 4.

Heartbroken Bangladesh team after not even entering in quarter finals of World Cup 2011 is planning to change their coach. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has few options on their list for the replacement of their current Australian coach and the top names include Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly. BCB has not made an official offer to Ganguly but is expected to be among their first priority.

After the announcement that Sri Lankan Cricket Board has made a point to call back all Sri Lankan players from IPL 4 for practicing for the upcoming tour with England. If it happens on the deadline given (5th may) then Sourav Ganguly is on priority for Kochi Tuskers Kerala as a replacement for Mahila Jayewardene.

With the news when asked Sourav Ganguly about what actually will happen he said, “Let’s see, I am having my fingers crossed”. Ganguly for whom no one opted in IPL4 auctions suddenly seems to have his stars bright shining. Hoping we will again see Dada showing his skills in cricket to the nation.

List Of Universities in Sweden

The higher education system of Sweden describes the difference between Universitet (University) and Hogskola, where the former refers to "full university status" and the later refers to "college or university college with limited university status". The Universities are research-oriented and award bachelor's, master's, and doctor's degrees. whereas the latter ones usually are more focussed on applied sciences. The Hogskola have certain limitations in granting doctor's degrees and are more focussed on applied sciences.
The two oldest Universities are Uppsala University and Lund University which were founded as universities in 1477 and 1666 respectively. All the other universities in Sweden were raised from Hogskola status to University status after they had been founded.
